God is real
A lot of people doubt the existence of God or even say that they know for certain that God doesn’t exist. Others believe in a supernatural power, but not in the ‘God of the Bible’. But the Bible says in Romans 1:20 “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” There’s a reason why people don’t know God or notice Him in their lives: they haven’t been converted.
The necessity of conversion.
Conversion - or ‘becoming born again’ - is something described in the Bible that sounds strange to a lot of people. Many people think they don’t need conversion or spiritual birth. They think that conversion is only for people who behave badly. But Jesus declared: “No one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” (John 3:3).
Nobody is righteous
The Bible tells that “all have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.” (Romans 3:12). That is the reason why God seems absent. There’s a wall of sin that separates us from God that only can be taken away by accepting God’s forgiveness.
Some people say: “I go to church often; I’m a believer and I was baptized as a child. I try to be good to other people and God is happy with me!” But is this so?
Jesus said that a lot of people will appear before His throne that will say that they had been a Christian in their lifetime. They will tell Him all the things they have done for Him. But then He will answer them: “Not everyone who says to Me Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father who is in heaven.” (Matthew 7:21). The Bible teaches us that we aren’t justified by our good works, but that we are saved by grace.
Other people say: “This life is just a process of learning, I’ll do better in a next life, until I’ve become a good person and then…” The Bible tells us that: “A man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.” (Hebrews 9:27).
Jesus is the only way to salvation
You have to face the fact that you can’t blame God for the problems in your life and the troubles in the world. It isn’t God who reigns in this world, mankind does. Since the first people sinned, God’s hand has been limited in this world because mankind walks in darkness. Only when you repent will God turn your darkness into light.
God loves you and He wants to help you. Jesus shed his blood on the cross, and in doing so He paid the price for our sins. God put the sins of this world on Jesus. Jesus actually paid the debt that we had towards God. The Bible also says that the only way we can be saved is by accepting Jesus as our personal Saviour.
What we have to do is to swallow our pride, admit our sins and accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Saviour. God took the first step in our direction when He sent Jesus to die for our sins. Now it is up to us to accept this sacrifice.
A new life
The Bible says in 2 Corinthians 5:17: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone; the new has come.” This is ‘being born again’.
Of course, conversion isn’t just a quick prayer what you can say just before you die. Conversion is a decision to serve God. In fact, we put our old life to death and begin a new life with Jesus.
You may say: “I am not ready for this, maybe I will be one day when I’m older - or when I get into trouble.” I want you to know - you will never be ready. The Bible says: “Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts” (Hebrews 3:15), “choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve.” (Joshua 24:15).
Jesus wants to perform a miracle.
Jesus Christ can become real in your life. He can take away loneliness and lack of purpose: with Him we never need to be alone. He knows us. He understands us. Only He can really help us. The only thing you have to do is to open up your heart to Him and let Him in.
Which way is the right way?
One of the last things written that Jesus said was: “Here I am, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door,
I will come in and eat with him, and he with Me.” (Revelation 3:20).
We challenge you to pray to God to reveal the truth to you. Jesus explained that when you ask something, it will be given to you; when you seek, you will find; and when you knock, the door will be opened to you. (Luke 11:9). We at the Evangelical Church 'De Deur' ('The Door') are eager to help you. We gladly invite you to contact us.
If you really want to get saved, but you don't know how, pray this simple prayer to God:
”Lord Jesus, I come to You. I admit that I have sinned and wandered away from You. I ask you to forgive me and to clean of my sin through the payment of my guilt by Your blood. I ask You to come into my heart and to perform a miracle there. From now on, I want to do Your will. I thank You for being my Saviour. I pray all this in Jesus Name.”
